WHAT IS INDOOR AIR QUALITY?

Let’s start with a definition by a group of people who should know what they’re talking about. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air quality refers to ‘the air quality within and around buildings and structures as it relates to the health and comfort of its occupants. Indoor air quality is affected by temperature, humidity, ventilation, and chemical or biological contaminants found within the building.’ Your air quality problems can be hiding anywhere in that long list of variables. Yikes.

How does it work?

The REME HALO® in-duct air purifier utilizes RGF’s proprietary Reflective Electro Magnetic Energy technology. Installed into the supply plenum of your existing air conditioning or heating system air ducts, the REME HALO® in-duct air purifier produces Hydro-Peroxide plasma that is distributed through the air handler, through the duct system, and into the conditioned living space. Unlike passive air technologies, which need pollutants to pass through the unit for purification or filtration, the REME HALO® in-duct air purifier sweeps through your home actively purifying pollutants at the source. Is my new home already built for maximum indoor air quality?

The best air quality starts when your home is built. airPLUS homes are set up to minimize your exposure to air contaminants. Your builder can let you know if your home is a certified airPLUS home. If it is – you’re good to go. They build the best bits in from the beginning – here are all the key components.

Mold and Moisture Control:
Excess moisture breeds mold, attracts pests and deteriorates building materials. Mold is a common trigger for allergy and asthma symptoms. Indoor airPLUS homes have additional construction features, including improved roof, wall, and foundation drainage to keep water where it belongs— outside of the home. Moisture-resistant building materials are also required in moisture-sensitive areas of the home and building materials are required to be kept dry during construction. All these requirements make a big difference as time, weather, and soil shifting compound over time.

Combustion Venting:
Fuel-burning appliances can release dangerous gases, like carbon monoxide. All ENERGY STAR and Indoor airPLUS labeled homes include furnaces, water heaters, and other combustion appliances that are specially vented to prevent back drafting of pollutants into the home. All Indoor airPLUS homes also include carbon monoxide alarms in each sleeping area. Exhausting gasses are one of the biggest contributors to poor air quality and carbon monoxide detection is especially critical for homes with children

Pest Management:
Pests, like rodents and cockroaches, can trigger allergy and asthma symptoms, as well as cause structural damage. Indoor airPLUS homes seal or screen pest entry points, reducing the need for pesticide use. Also – living with bugs is disgusting. Efficient Heating, Ventilating, and AirConditioning Systems (HVAC):
Poorly designed and installed HVAC systems can lead to comfort and air quality problems. They can also add massive expenses to your monthly energy bill. Indoor airPLUS homes add enhanced filtration; additional dehumidification capacity in warm, moist climates; and inspection of air handling systems and ductwork to ensure they are clean, free of debris, and provide adequate airflow. You should have these systems checked and adjusted each year to prolong the life of your equipment and ensure optimal performance.

Building Materials:
Many building materials release chemicals (often called volatile organic compounds, or VOCs) into the indoor air. Off-gassing can continue for years after the home is built and occupied. These chemicals can produce strong odors, and cause eye, nose, and throat irritation, as well as other effects in sensitive people. Indoor airPLUS homes use no-VOC or low-VOC paints, carpets, and low-formaldehyde manufactured wood products. Better materials make a big difference for home occupants. Radon Resistance:
